Boxing

Today was sparring with the punching bag and practicing skills, I had a MRI the other day and its not looking good. My back is killing me all the time but I don't wanna stop boxing. I also hurt my arm today which really stinks. I went to punch but the bag came flying back and slammed into my arm which bent the wrong way. I still practiced for the whole time period even in pain.

Mrs.Peterson Techn

Today was easy, Mrs.Peterson and I agreed that if I helped her with lifting and moving equipment that she'd teach me everything about computers. So today I inserted a cd and downloaded a driver to fix some of the desktops and laptops.

Film Club

Today we did something we should have done in the beginning of film club, watch a independently filmed movie, which the main character; stared, directed, wrote, and even did the camera angles. The movie was called, "Primer"which was praised on its low budget. We thought that by watching a movie made on basically nothing that we could do the same concept but with more characters.

Boxing

Still at 161 and feeling great. Today I spared kind of with my coach and knocked him down showing him i master the three punch combination. It wasn't easy to get to that level, I had to essentially turn my body into a pullie system so that when I jab with the left my right was stuck at my face, then as I was going in with the right my left would come back to my face. It helped me so my hands don't drop and I don't get knocked out. My coach sees great potential in my and wants me to enter a tournament in the summer for boxing. I really want too as well, the only downside is Tuesday (May 4th) I go in for a MRI then June 25th I go to Bostons Children Hospital which may require me to do PT and brace but most likely no surgery! So I don't know what the future holds for me still...

Film Club

Today we decided the following: One that we would spend the summer working on the script to give us more time since no one us had actually done anything like this before also we can do the drowning scene over the summer when the water is warmer rather than freezing cold. Two we decided we will meet twice a week instead of once. And the third thing that we will start making smaller movies that are a lot shorter because we are definitely not ready to make this film happen yet. It may be a reach but Gabe White's father is friends with Edward Norton and we were hoping to get to talk to him about films etc..

Boxing

Yesterday was one of the hardest boxing practices of all time. It was basically a review of everything I've learned over the last few weeks but my skills aren't as sharp as they need to be. However the power I now see I posses is phenomenal, I'm also in the works of learning the uppercut and mixing up punches, essentially thinking on my feet. I'm also now 161.4 pounds and feeling pretty good and healthier.

Boxing

I'm now 166 pounds, and after a grueling 2 hour workout I had a sparring match today and won it killed my neck and back but I was able to win again. I am now also learning the 5 combination which adds in the uppercut to the arsenal of punches I've already learned in boxing. I've also learned to kick a lot higher, part of my workout was to kick the bottom of the bag, then middle, then finally the top of the bag, with each leg over and over again also using my 4 punch combination for kick-boxing. It is very interesting combining working out, boxing, and kick boxing all in one regiment I feel a lot healthier as a of late besides my back. Though a year ago I would never see myself being able to do any of this.

Boxing

Today since the weather was terrible, we worked inside. It was more of a "gym work out" than just plain old boxing. I did a lot of kick boxing, weight lifting, and cardio and sparing which I am now 2-0 with sparing. I think I hurt my neck even more though by over doing it. I am now down to 169 and feeling good besides my neck/spine. It hurt so much the other day the nurse sent me home, I found a neurosurgeon who wants me to have a MRI done which I am very claustrophobic so I am nervous. I also talked to someone who ended up having to have surgery for his kyphosis he was unable to continue with his sports career of playing baseball (not professional) , So I don't know what the future hold for me, I'm feeling so confident and love boxing I'd hate to see it end so soon, especially with all this potential i have and this tournament coming up in July. I also found out that a health weight for a 5'5 male at the age of 17 is 141 pounds which may be my next goal if I have to stop boxing.

Boxing

I'm now down to 172 pounds, though I started working out last April 9th I have lost a 108 pounds in one year which is perfect for boxing. Saturday was more simplistic on the producer but a mental drain which caused me to start LO.G 8 developing new skills because I was learning the simplistic 4 punch combo;jab with left, the curve/jab with right, then left hook to the stomach, finally left hook to the face. We decided that once I did the 4 punch combo I would start throwing kicks, three with he left and three with the right. I would start at the bottom of the bag and kick up higher and higher with each kick after the punching combination. I decided to put a little spin on the boxing and start kick boxing. It was a huge strain though, because I've never really kicked before and I had a lot of power in my kicks, i just had to focus mentally since psychically I could do it. In the next few weeks I'll be going to Boston hospital to get more xrays and MRI's, my spine is bad and it's 99% chance I'm going to have to get surgery, but I don't wanna stop what I'm doing now I haven't felt this healthily in years.

Reflections: Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard Nantucket School-To-Careers Partnership and Cape Cod Museum of Art Art Internship Program

Above is the final product of my art piece for the museum which will be hung for everyone to see. I worked in a museum as a intern helping to registrar's prepare for all the incoming work for the year, keep track of what was already in there etc.. I learned exactly what happens and how the museum runs which in my opinion could not be don without the registrars since they keep track of everything. My goal was to learn what exactly they do and basically be a registrar with them for the duration of the internship and work on the piece above. My plan which I did was to take from memory two sunsets I'd seen before and make a piece out of them out of oil pastels that'd be scientific in a sense. The top one is slimmer since the day and night are not always equal. I decided to incorporate trees because to me represent life. I also decided to make them vertical so they appeared touchable and it looks like they're coming at the viewer. I also named piece, "Soles occidere et redire possunt" from the poem Catullus 5 meaning 'Suns are able to set and return' which is pretty self explanatory once looking at the piece. I feel I meant my learning outcome goals which were considering ethical implications of my actions and developing new skills during my internship. I was able to meet my first goal because I had a strong relationship with the other two registrars because the only way to operate is by working as one unit which I had to do in order for us to prepare for all the incoming work. Also by doing this I got to see over 200 hundred different artists from all different time periods, art movements etc, which essentially helped me and guided me in my art making process since I had the inspiration from all these artists and their work. In my case this was a service while for the registrars it was there job and their life lot and lots of collaboration happened which I interrupted ethics as working with others which I did. While I feel I completed the other learning outcome goal because I developed new skills which included computer skills, researching skills, people skills, and overall artist skills. I learned how to make data bases and use the Museum's data base to create logs etc.. and check in work that is in coming in the museum. Also researching skills such as researching the life and deaths of artists and once again everything that came into the museum. People skills which are basically talking and communicating with all new people and people I'd never spoken too before. And my artist skills definitely improved because I learned more on techniques, different artists, and basically naming pieces. I basically learned from this experience and internship that new things are good try because in a way they will always benefit you with life experience in my case it helped me learn the trades of registrars and umtimately get my artwork put in a museum.

Reflections: Creative Writing Club

I had plan or attempted to write a poem, which I did. Then send it to the CWC and have them critique it to the point I felt it was ready to send to Miss.Fenney and attempt to have it published in the Sturgian. And basically get over my fear of the public seeing my inner thoughts and works. I did just that, I sent the CWC my first poem which they helped me revise it a great deal especially the grammatically and poetically. They were very helpful and I had the right motivation from them and the eagerness and ambition to get over my anxieties. After a few rewrites I sent it into Miss.Fenney who also gave me help to prefect it to be the poem I had envisioned but had so much trouble getting to be that way alone. It was then published and many people at the school had read the poem and enjoyed it and had positive and negative criticism which is all i wanted to help me progress as a writer and poet. One of my two learning outcome goals was increase awareness in my own strengths and areas of growth with without I completed and was a outcome because I basically learn to write something from scratch and learned the tricks and trades of writing poetry. I feel after this whole experience I had the ability to do this all along but never given the right opportunity to prove it to myself and everyone else. I also feel like this was the reason I was able to get over my fears of the public seeing my work and had a successful time doing this. I also meet my other learning outcome goal of showing perseverance and commitment because I was committed to keep revising and sending in my poem till it was perfected to what I wanted it to be gaining experience from everyone. Which also helped me help over aspiring writers such as myself. I showed perseverance because I refused to quit till my goal as completed. The knowledge I ultimately gained life experience, that I have the skills and strengths to write poems and I have the strength to share it with the world, whether it be by helping others who aspire to do what I did or helping myself keep on this track. POEM THAT WAS PUBLISHED BELOW:
In her honor.

There was a time,

Where she’s lived through death and despair,

Without shedding a single tear,

She’s mourned and regretted,

That day when she lost her most beloved.

Not only has she overcome loss,

Like Dresden, she is a survivor.

She’s been put under with anesthetics,

Put under the knife, cut open, and healed

She wears these scars as medals of Honor,

To show her true colors.

But this time something has attacked her inside,

9 years of pain,

It reigned,

Supreme in all its might,

Despite her desperate fight,

She’s bled and fought hard.

The honor is almost all gone.

The blood has dried but I can’t tell who has won:

The death,

Or her.

She emerges with new scars,
Black and blue trying to heal itself,
She wears these new scars with pride,
Put into her collection of them,
To show her honor.

Today was a HUGE learning experience for us. For instance we printed out scripts for everyone and we all took a role, mine was pessimistic and paranoid then read over the lines to see how it flows. We found a lot of mistakes that made our script very very choppy. We though we were ready to submit our script to Mrs.Botsford so she could help us cast it but we need to go back to the drawing board in a way and put our heads back together. I've shared the document with you so you can see what I'm referring too when I say we need to work on our script more.

Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard Nantucket School-To-Careers Partnership and Cape Cod Museum of Art Art Internship Program

Wednesday was my final day at the art museum for the internship. I looked up all the schools on Cape Cod and the Islands' information so we can inform them about the intern program next year. Also I made labels for all the art work that is coming in this month for the interns show. Mine is all ready and ready to hang. I am very excited about the show which will be May 13th from 5:30 to 7:30.

Boxing

Today I learned a 4 punch combination using both left and right hands. I learned straight jabs, curved shots, and body shots. The most important thing I learned is that you need to mix it up and be surprising in a actual match don't let the opponent see what your going to do. Hopefully for my next lesson I'll be sparring against someone. For my training regiment and boxing I'll lost 2 pounds this week which is my weekly goal to lose at least two or more a week I am now 175 and want to loose 15 more by May 1st.

Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard Nantucket School-To-Careers Partnership and Cape Cod Museum of Art Art Internship Program

Today was my second to last meeting with Angela. I helped create a data base for the feedback sheets from mentors and interns and also made sure all the work in the artist data base had births and death years for all the artists. We also got all my paperwork read to go to Linda the coordinator of the program, and Michael and I began to work on how my piece will hang up. I changed the name of my piece all to, "soles occidere et redire possunt" a line from the poem Catullus 5 by Catullus meaning 'Suns are able to set and return'.

Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard Nantucket School-To-Careers Partnership and Cape Cod Museum of Art Art Internship Program

Today was my last day with Michael and I have two more meeting with Angela before my work is ready for the museum and before the show for the artwork to be displayed. Today with Michael we made finishing labels for all the incoming work this year, and it gave me some ideas for what to name my piece "Ridens et Cadens meus solis" meaning Rising and Falling of my Sun.

Boxing

Yesterday, I had my right armed tied around me so that my fist was close to my face, this was to teach me to keep one fist at my fast while punching with the other. I maneuvered around the punching, doing jabs/ 1 combination working with my feet so I learned to privet on my right foot and extend my left leg so I could get a better reach. I was weighed yesterday as well and after a long week of training and being sick I lost 4 pounds putting me at 177, my goal is to be 160 by May 8th. I also went to the doctors this week and found out I have a bad case kyphosis which may require surgery which will definitely put my boxing on the shelf for a few months, regardless though I have to do physical therapy so boxing in all aspects might have to stop until I'm finished

Creative Writing Club

Today we helped a aspiring writer with her poem. I essentially finished my goals for everything in the club, my poem was published and I received help to get that way. Now I'm helped other people who want to do the same things so they're able to do what I did.

Saturday, March 20, 2010

Boxing

Today I learned the basic 1, 2 combination and learned how to make my stance when boxing. I also made a work out routine, which will include push-up, sit-ups, punching bag, hip moving, curls, treed mill, and weights only on my legs. I'll eat healthily as well. This will be happening 4 times a week, though i'll only see my boxing instructor once a week and weighing myself every sat to see how much I've lost.

Creative Writing Club

When I think about it my overall C.A.S was about finished, I wanted to get help on a poem, get confident on submitting the poem and get it published. I've done all those things, yet I still feel like I am going to remain in CWC, so I can get more help for future pieces for the future Sturgians and help other aspiring writers.

Film Club

Today, we decided our main character's name will be "Jack" and all the other traits/characters what specific traits they'll be. We are also trying to produce a script so we can do some casting, and decided to incorporate flashbacks which will be in color but have the rest of the film in black and white to add some uniqueness to it. We also decided that we may have students who want to view it once we finish come into the room 109 at lunch or something and watch the film.
Sample of script:

Jack: “Well I’m gonna try it anyway.”

[Jack heads up the stairs and tries the door. He finds it firmly locked. He rattles the door and slams on the door till he collapses. Optimistic guy finds him on the stairs]

Optimistic: “Don’t worry, we’ll find some way out of here Jack.”

Jack: “How…how do you know my name?”

[Optimistic guy doesn’t answer the question and helps Jack up and brings him downstairs.]

Today I started to make a calendar so my mentor Angela and I know when all the art work is coming in, when it is being opened to the public, when its being closed, and then removed. The calender goes for the whole year though I'll only be a apart of the mentor ship for a few more months. I also keep working on my piece for the museum as well.

I finished doing a lot of organization basically getting labels ready for the photography and making digital records of important documents about the internship this year. This is the progress on my piece for the exhibit so far. I intend to make a night time version that is slimmer-ish showing how night time to show how night and day aren't always equal.

Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard Nantucket School-To-Careers Partnership and Cape Cod Museum of Art Art Internship Program

On Sunday I finished making the labels for Michael for the upcoming work from New York which will be mostly photography. And I keep changing my mind on the piece that I'll be doing for the museum. I can't decided between koi fish, trees or a three dimensional piece with bowling balls and pins. Nevertheless I've produced over 6 tree pieces not being able to capture what i'm looking for exactly, it's in my head but I can't get it on paper.
Thats the photo graph i'll be using for my piece, i photo i captured of the moon a few months ago.

Wednesday, February 24, 2010

Today I worked with Angela Bilski my other mentor. I made a database for the current and previous art mentors and intern program, while working on my piece for the museum.

Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard Nantucket School-To-Careers Partnership and Cape Cod Museum of Art Art Internship Program

Sunday I worked with my other mentor Michael Giaquinto and we made labels for incoming art work to be hung. And I began working on my for the museum which maybe a mirror tree type thing half in day and half in the night or it will be a water color painting of koi fish. I haven't decided yet.

Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard Nantucket School-To-Careers Partnership and Cape Cod Museum of Art Art Internship Program

Today, I spent the day with one of my mentors Angela who i will meet with every Wed. She had me find the artist and title of their work for every artist in the museum then enter then make a data base for then, then finally set up exhibits for the work. I learned a lot about how the art business works such as borrowing artwork from different museum and what not. Also by going around to the almost 200 pieces, it made me wonder why artists' named their pieces if it didn't relate to the piece this gave me some life experience so when i go to produce my piece for the museum i get a feel of how or ways of naming my artwork.

Film Club

Today, I began doing the dialouge for our film, hopefully with working on the dialouge and editing with Ben Staas we hope to have a script for casting in early March then begin sometime around April.

Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard Nantucket School-To-Careers Partnership and Cape Cod Museum of Art Art Internship Program

Today I talked to the coordinator of the program Linda McNeil-Kemp and we scheduled a interview for me to and see what will be excepted of me etc... She gave me a bunch of questions she wanted me to think about before the interview on Jan 12th. Some of the questions; "What will I bring? What skills do I have? What do I have that others don't? What type of attitude will I bring in? And how will I work with others?"
