Reflections: Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard Nantucket School-To-Careers Partnership and Cape Cod Museum of Art Art Internship Program

Above is the final product of my art piece for the museum which will be hung for everyone to see. I worked in a museum as a intern helping to registrar's prepare for all the incoming work for the year, keep track of what was already in there etc.. I learned exactly what happens and how the museum runs which in my opinion could not be don without the registrars since they keep track of everything. My goal was to learn what exactly they do and basically be a registrar with them for the duration of the internship and work on the piece above. My plan which I did was to take from memory two sunsets I'd seen before and make a piece out of them out of oil pastels that'd be scientific in a sense. The top one is slimmer since the day and night are not always equal. I decided to incorporate trees because to me represent life. I also decided to make them vertical so they appeared touchable and it looks like they're coming at the viewer. I also named piece, "Soles occidere et redire possunt" from the poem Catullus 5 meaning 'Suns are able to set and return' which is pretty self explanatory once looking at the piece. I feel I meant my learning outcome goals which were considering ethical implications of my actions and developing new skills during my internship. I was able to meet my first goal because I had a strong relationship with the other two registrars because the only way to operate is by working as one unit which I had to do in order for us to prepare for all the incoming work. Also by doing this I got to see over 200 hundred different artists from all different time periods, art movements etc, which essentially helped me and guided me in my art making process since I had the inspiration from all these artists and their work. In my case this was a service while for the registrars it was there job and their life lot and lots of collaboration happened which I interrupted ethics as working with others which I did. While I feel I completed the other learning outcome goal because I developed new skills which included computer skills, researching skills, people skills, and overall artist skills. I learned how to make data bases and use the Museum's data base to create logs etc.. and check in work that is in coming in the museum. Also researching skills such as researching the life and deaths of artists and once again everything that came into the museum. People skills which are basically talking and communicating with all new people and people I'd never spoken too before. And my artist skills definitely improved because I learned more on techniques, different artists, and basically naming pieces. I basically learned from this experience and internship that new things are good try because in a way they will always benefit you with life experience in my case it helped me learn the trades of registrars and umtimately get my artwork put in a museum.
